When Tennessee Vols transfer target Chaz Lanier could make a decision on his transfer destination
Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Vols have had a productive offseason.

Despite losing several players to the transfer portal/eligibility (Dalton Knecht, Josiah-Jordan James, Santiago Vescovi, Jonas Aidoo, Tobe Awaka), the Vols will enter the 2024-25 season with a stacked lineup thanks to a couple of key transfer additions (Felix Okpara, Darlinstone Dubar, and Igor Milicic), plus a returning cast that includes star point guard Zakai Zeigler.

Tennessee is hoping to make another big transfer addition in the coming days/weeks.

North Florida transfer guard Chaz Lanier is at the top of the Vols' wish list. Tennessee appears to be the favorite for the Nashville native. But other programs, such as Kentucky and Maryland, are also trying to land the coveted transfer guard.

So when will Lanier, who is also going through the NBA draft process, make a decision?

It could still be a few days...or longer.

Kentucky basketball insider Tristan Pharis noted on Monday evening that Lanier isn't expected to make a decision until after he attends the NBA G-League elite camp this weekend (May 11-12).

Lanier didn't receive an invite to the 2024 NBA Draft Combine, which takes place from May 12 to May 19, but he could earn an invite with a strong performance at the G-League elite camp this weekend.

Lanier is going to go through the entire NBA pre-draft process before officially making his decision.

The deadline to withdraw his name from the NBA draft is May 29, which means Lanier's decision could still be a few weeks away -- though if he doesn't earn an invite to the NBA draft combine, he'll likely make his decision sooner.

It's still possible that Lanier could choose to stay in the NBA draft. But for now, the expectation is that he'll return to college for his final season of eligibility. And Tennessee still seems like the most likely landing spot for the talented guard.
