Green Bay Packers Linked To Former All-Pro Defender
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

As the Green Bay Packers prepare for their offseason workouts, Bleacher Report recently spoke about one player who would be a good person to target.

With the 2024 NFL Draft in the rearview mirror for the Green Bay Packers, the organization is looking forward to having some strong summer workouts leading up to the regular season.

In the draft, the Packers prioritized addressing their defense and in particular their secondary. With some holes at safety, the Packers hope that they addressed those issues, as they drafted three safeties.

In addition to the safety position, the Green Bay Packers do also have some question marks at cornerback opposite of Jaire Alexander. Recently, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report spoke about veteran Patrick Peterson being a player they should pursue. Here’s what he had to say.

“Adding a high-end veteran to the secondary would make plenty of sense, and the Packers have the cap space to make it happen,” Knox wrote. “Peterson could provide depth behind Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes while bringing additional veteran leadership to one of the NFL’s youngest rosters. It would be a smart signing for a team with an opening Super Bowl window.”

Adding Peterson makes a ton of sense for the Packers, as while he might not be the elite corner he once was, but he wouldn’t be asked to be guarding star receivers opposite of Alexander. For a team that has an opportunity to contend in the conference once again this season, going all-in and bringing in veterans on one-year deals in positions of need is a smart idea.

As the offseason and training camps move on, injuries happen and players get cut by teams. For the Green Bay Packers, having some cap space is certainly a good place to be in. Depending on how some of their young players in the secondary look, Peterson could be a viable option for them at some point.
