NFL Draft countdown: Focus on Jets' first-round pick at No. 10

The 2024 NFL Draft is rapidly approaching. Last year, the Bears took OL Darnell Wright with the 10th pick. This year the Jets have the honor. Here’s who experts think they'll select.

ESPN (Mike Tannenbaum): Olu Fashanu, OT, Penn State

Tannenbaum spent 16 years with the Jets’ front office, including seven as general manager. The team took a first-round offensive lineman just once under his leadership but makes up for lost time giving the Jets a building block for future.

“At 6-foot-6 and 312 pounds, Fashanu has excellent feet and movement skills for his frame," Tannebaum wrote. "He played 1,306 snaps during his Penn State career and gave up only one sack. He has perennial All-Pro potential if his technique continues to develop, giving the Jets a shutdown left tackle for years to come.”

The Jets signed left tackle Tyron Smith away from the Cowboys for $6.5M in the offseason, but for only one year. That and Smith’s injury history make Fashanu an excellent choice to protect Aaron Rodgers in 2024.

New York Post (Brian Costello): Taliese Fuaga, OT, Oregon State

Costello points out that New York also signed former Ravens tackle Morgan Moses to a three-year, $15M deal in the offseason. But considering Moses and Smith are both 33 years old, adding top-10 talent to the position makes sense for New York.

In Fuaga, the Jets get a 6-foot-6, 324-pound player that allowed just 12 quarterback hurries, two quarterback hits and zero sacks in 700 total snaps. He played in 39 games for the Beavers with the last 25 at right tackle.

ESPN (Field Yates ): Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia

Acknowledging the possibility of the Jets giving Rodgers more protection by adding an offensive tackle, Yates has the team giving him another weapon.

“Bowers is a difference-making tight end who would complement star wideout Garrett Wilson and recently signed Mike Williams. He would thrive with no shortage of run-after-catch opportunities.”

A trio of Bowers, Williams and Wilson could do real damage with Rodgers throwing them the ball and could challenge the rival Dolphins duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end was almost unstoppable in three seasons at Georgia with 2,731 scrimmage yards and 31 total touchdowns over three seasons.

An ankle injury suffered during the SEC Championship kept him out of drills during the NFL Scouting Combine but did nothing to hurt his draft stock. Bowers would become just the fifth tight end since 2000 to be drafted in the top-10 if taken by the Jets.
