Boston Bruins sign Riley Duran to two-year, entry-level contract
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced Sunday that the club has signed forward Riley Duran to a two-year, entry-level contract beginning in the 2024-25 season. According to CapFriendly, the contract is set to have a cap hit of $867,500.

Duran will report to the Bruins’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Providence Bruins on an amateur tryout contract (ATO).

The Woburn, Massachusetts product spent the 2023-24 campaign in the NCAA with the Providence College Friars where he registered nine goals and seven assists for 16 points in 35 games. This was Duran’s third season with the Friars, in 102 NCAA games he totalled 27 goals and 28 assists for 55 points.

Duran was originally selected by the Bruins at No. 182 overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. Duran had spent that season with Lawrence Academy and tallied a team-leading 22 goals and 44 points in 27 games. The following season, the 6-foot-2, 181-pound forward opted to play for the Youngstown Phantoms in the United States Hockey League (USHL) during his gap year prior to playing at Providence. While playing for the Phantoms, Duran tallied eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 47 games along with 32 penalty minutes.

Duran was selected in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) American Draft by the Halifax Mooseheads in 2018 but opted to play college hockey. During the 2021-22 campaign, Duran represented the United States at the IIHF World Juniors on a stacked team that has produced NHLers like Minnesota’s Brock Faber, New Jersey’s Luke Hughes, Calgary’s Matt Coronato, Toronto’s Matthew Knies and San Jose’s Thomas Bordeleau to name a handful. Duran registered two goals and three assists for five points in five games.

Providence ranks second in the Atlantic Division with a 36-18-4-3 record and 79 points through 61 games. With 11 games remaining in the regular season, Duran should get reps with the Bruins.
